A Word About Sales Representatives….
Sometimes, there is nothing more irritating than having to stop what I am doing to answer a call from some person, from some other state or even country, that wants to know how much toner we use. Sometimes, there is nothing more irritating than having to stop what I am working on to meet and greet a “drop by” man, whom albeit is nice enough, but is hawking some new uniform shirt or soft water installation. When these events happen to me, I often pause and write down thoughts on how I want our Sales Staff to be “that guy”….or rather, NOT be “that guy” that drops in, interrupts what you are doing and irritates you. It’s a fine line to walk…selling.
For years and years, we have called our sales staff “Sales Representatives”. What I have come to realize recently, is that really what they are is Account Managers. We are not “one hit wonders”, that will come to your business and razzle/dazzle you with rock bottom pricing, make promises and then you never see us again. We take tremendous pride in:
- Building and maintaining a long term business “partnership” with our customers
- Ensuring that our customers are using the right products, increasing their drains, elongating the life of their equipment by using high quality lubricants
- We make deliveries when you need them, not when we can fit you into our schedule
- We work to find you whatever you require, from Mil Spec’s to figuring out what lubricants you need for your machine that was manufactured in Germany…in 1970
- We go to your job site, check your equipment, stick your tanks, answer your calls day or night
- We work hard to help you reduce costs, track your usage, ensure you are in the right product…from Lubes, to Fuel, to Pacific Pride
In short, we are a customer service oriented company. We are completely focused on ensuring that all of our customers are WOWED when we provide goods and services to them. Our Account Managers build their schedules around visiting their individual customer base on a regular basis and ensuring that we are providing to each account exactly what they need, when they need it and at the best price possible.
When our account managers “drop in”, if you are busy or occupied, rest assured they are just there to make sure your needs are being met, perhaps check your tanks or equipment, rotate your stock if needed…just make sure you are doing okay. We know, that when your business is thriving, our business is thriving… I promise, we will never be “that guy” or “that company” that interrupted you for no reason, or let you down.
We truly appreciate you, the customer. Our goal, every single day, is to be better today than we were yesterday…so that all of our customers, always get the best when they call Western States Petroleum!
HUH? Is E85 REALLY $2.119 ?????
Yes, our E85 is really $2.119 this week and Yes that is almost .55 per gallon less than the average gasoline price in Phoenix. SO, if you have a YELLOW cap on your gasoline tank, or if your car is 2007 or newer…you should think about using E85. Please check in your owners manual or with your dealership to ensure that your vehicle is E85 compatible or check www.e85fuel.com for a list of makes and models! Come in, save some money and run a cleaner burning fuel!!
AND…..
When you come down to save money on E85 or our B99 Biodiesel, please stop by our Tribute table to the Susan G Komen foundation, shop a little, donate a little! Our efforts continue, in raising money for the October Susan G Komen 3 Day Walk…help support our Pink Cha Cha’s, so that they may walk for those that no longer can!

Current E85 Will Call Price at our Plant $2.019
Current B99 Biodiesel Will Call Price at our Plant $2.379 (lightduty)
Crude closed on Friday a little over $72.00 a barrel. The price of crude almost immediately affects the price of gasoline/diesel at the retail pump. All suppliers are working off the real time pricing of crude. Friday evening (6/12/09) the average price of gasoline in the Phoenix area was $2.69 and Diesel was $2.59. Pundits speak about big oil getting ready for the summer drive time, so they are cranking up the price. However, when President Obama was on his tour of Egypt, OPEC announced they wanted the price of the barrel to be up by at least $10.00. It is a combination of OPEC Movement and that all refinery production in the United States has been reduced. There are many factors and components that lead to the end result of what we pay at the pump. Rest assured the retailer/station owner is second to last on the food chain of profit, with the Jobber being the last. The retailer is being squeezed to earn any profit on the gasoline portion of his/her business, so when you see prices jump .05 in one day, rest assured it is not an arbitrary decision made by the retailer. Prices move when the cost of the fuel moves, profits, if any, remain stagnant. Other mitigating factors in gasoline prices are the continued unrest in the Middle East and Venezuela and North Korea Developing Nuclear Grade Weapons seems to be making all markets nervous.
I know it is hard to believe that when you pull up to the gas pump and are trying to figure out how much gasoline you can afford to put in your vehicle, that countries an entire world away have impact on your decision…but they do. So do all of our elected officials in Washington….Read On.
Climate Bill In Congress and What it Means….
H.R. 2454 has passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is being bantered around from committee to committee for consideration and final recommendation for Floor vote legislation. The American Petroleum Institute believes the legislation is designed to restrict fossil fuel and potentially can affect gasoline prices by more than .75 per gallon, diesel prices by more than .85 per gallon and Jet A by more than .80 per gallon. The legislation would require refiners and manufacturers to acquire carbon dioxide pollution allowances that could be traded on a market as part of an effort to cut emissions 17% below 2005 levels by 2020. The measure, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a study of the bill that estimates the bill would produce $845.6 Billion in revenue and cost CONSUMERS more than $821.2 Billion through 2019.
I believe all Americans want to achieve smaller carbon footprints, a cleaner environment and be able to leave a healthier world to the next generations…however, a 10 year move on the back of the taxpayer perhaps is over reaching. Back to the drawing board, I say. Tell me what you think….
Friday Bake Sales…..
In last weeks blog, I spoke about our company efforts to raise money this year for the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Race for the cure. The weekly bake sales are going really well. We appreciate the support from all our customers that have come in, picked up a tasty treat and donated! Yesterday, Martha’s family made strawberry cupcakes with pink cream frosting… JEEZ they were delicious! Okay, I think I had 3…but I donated! Next week, I’m mulling over making a couple of Chocolate Pecan Pies…so please come by, say hello and have a treat. We are on a quest to raise $20,000 for the foundation and participate in the 3 day walk in October (last week I posted November, my bad)!
